In November of 2014, members of the United States Congress joined with Armenian American organizations, including the Armenian Rugs Society, participated in the unveiling of the White House’s historic Armenian Orphan Rug display at the White House Visitors Center which exhibited for viewing from November 18th to 23rd, 2014.

The Armenian Genocide Orphan Rug, woven by child survivors of the Genocide at the Near East Relief's Ghazir Orphanage (Lebanon), was gifted to President Coolidge in 1925 in appreciation of U.S. humanitarian assistance.

The Armenian Orphan Rug measures 11′ 7″ x 18′ 5″ and is comprised of 4,404,206 individual knots. It took Armenian girls in the Ghazir Orphanage of Near East Relief 10 months to weave and the rug was delivered to U.S. President Calvin Coolidge on December 4, 1925, in time for Christmas, with a label on the back of the rug, which reads, “IN GOLDEN RULE GRATITUDE TO PRESIDENT COOLIDGE.”
