ARMENIAN RUGS SOCIETY SYMPOSIA AND LECTURES
Organizing, sponsoring, and participating in symposia and colloquia regarding Armenian rugs, carpets, and the Armenian weaving arts tradition has been part and parcel of the Armenian Rugs Society's mission to disseminate knowledge, from a variety of sources, about Armenian woven arts culture from its very foundation.
The Society's symposia have run the gamut from interpreting woven arts iconography and ornamentation to weaving arts traditions as they have evolved in the totality of Armenian locales throughout the centuries.
In each and every case, the Society seeks to provide its membership, and the community at large, with the most accurate, incisive, and current information and findings regarding what has come to be a global cultural tradition rich with discoveries and artifacts that, even now, creates new scholarly standards and opens new areas of study both within the Armenian woven arts arena and historical scholarship in general.
Currently, we are showcasing four symposia that approach the woven arts from both site specific standpoints and more sweeping surveys.
The Armenian Rugs Society symposia, and their accompanying exhibits, currently presented within this section include, "Kum Kapi: Armenian Weavers and Silk Rugs Constantinople," "Armenian Orphans and Orphanages: Their Contributions to the Rug Weaving World," "Armenian Genocide Survivors and the Woven Arts," and "Armenian Rugs and Textiles: An Overview from Four Centuries."
The Armenian Rugs Society anticipates new and far reaching inquiries into Armenian woven arts culture and history to continue with increased impetus over the coming months and years as new discoveries and artifacts are unveiled by scholars, experts, and collectors of Armenian rugs and the woven arts.
The Society will be adding many more documents and slideshows to this area in the near future, however in the meantime, please peruse these pages via the icons below or the navigation bar drop down menus at the top of each page.
